Another unpredicted saturday

I was totally confused and a bit amazed at what I did on saturday. At a point , I was hitting 4 balls from the tee box. And another hole on a par four 400 m , I was hitting the driver with having to play my second shot only 150 m to the green.

Yes , the word inconsistent and not believing I can do it is simply the problem. The mind is not registering all the skill that have been installed and drilled during the week. On the driving range with range balls , I was hitting the 250 mark at ease and yet it difficult to think that I can do the same on the tee box. Yesterday performance was yet the worst I have played in years.

Par on three par five ? Par on Index hole , and screw up on the lower index hole. Lucky a playing partner manages to console and pointed out the problem of having a good focus on the game. How I wish I cud learn from the pros.

Top amateur in Miri Masters 2005

Siva and Malik (pro) was in miri during the last Miri Masters 2005 in April. Little that I knew that there are so many pro now in Malaysia. More than 50 local pro and amateurs came over for the tournament.

I have seen mgaonline.com.my but where is mpgaonline.com.my ?
Anybody have any clue ?

It was not meant to be a good day for golf

Little that I know about the game today. The green was a bit faster and firmer today. They must have trim it down and today was not the golf game I would like to remember. After hitting the ball to the ob line on the right at the par 4 hole no 5 , it suddenly went from horror to nightmares.
Hit a solid 5 iron and landed 15 feet from the pin.
And what did I do next , yeah , three putt to finish the hole. And worst is yet to come. Tee box no 6 , 2 OB on the right. The swing is suddenly not there. Something is not right either at the top of my swing , or speedy downswing or the feet is not holding up as usual.
On the 18th tee, I did hit it right again. Then from 220 m hitting the 4 wood solid and reach the front of the green. Hated the wedge so much today , I decided to use the putter and finish about 7 feet to the pin. Then my putting grip let me down again. Miss birdie and a par and a total of 102 strokes for today.

Next week schedule prior to monthly medal:
Monday & Tuesday - driving range - Driver , 4 wood and long iron.
Wednesday & Thursday - Mid irons and wedges.
Friday - Green side pitching and putting.
Saturday - D Day.

Target for 11th June - to reduce handicapp to 12.Must play 83 and below gross.

Little Hanie.

She was only 4 months old . Strapped safely and at a corner watching dad playing tennis with mates at Holiday Villa in Khartoum. She is now 2 and will be 3 in November. Now when is she is going to be on her feet dragging dad's golf bag at the golf course... in years to come for sure...he he.

Amsterdam 2002 ... If I were not in miri

Could have stayed there and make a living but did not. Both of us realised it wont make much difference to us but it will for the kids. So we left and stayed in Miri. Been two years already , and begining to miss that place.

But then again, maybe segamat is much better than amsterdam. Why ? So much closer to mum and dad and the rest of the family members.

- 16 and going down fast again
2005 - mid year , turn 13 and still going down...
- end of the year should be officially less than 12
- to qualify for KGM open
- at least qualify for second round
2006 - single and hitting the driver more than 250 m consistently..

Still have those fond memories of that house. Waking up early on friday morning , drive to the tennis court at Holiday Villa by the Nile. As early as 6 am , the weather can change to hot and sunny at 8 am. Lucky enuf my dearest housemate is a tennis addix , so I dont really miss golf that much. Afterall there is no golf in that country either.

I had a big laugh at the office. Someone had the nerve to write mails to bosses claiming a loud golfer like me are not a good example of a certain organisation employee.
Maybe he is right. Maybe there is truth in it.

But on the other hand , who cares. IF that someone carry on playing after fever and purging on the golf course and simply lost his nerves because the pack infront of him is playing so slow ?

Yeahh...I am now officially ban from playing for that organisation. Yeahhh as if it is the end of the world for me. I having nothing to lose mate. But the intention to take personal things to the attention to others and trying to make other person looks very bad , that is war...he he he.

the thing is , dont get mad , get what .... yeah ... get even. He wont know what will hit him . I am laughing all the way to the green. ha ha ha.

Eastwood Valley New 18 hole Golf Resort in Miri

Miri was given the Resort City status on 20.05.2005. Nice ! On the same day the Eastwood Valley Golf Resort is open for the public. Green fees , no comment. However I was given the oppurtunity to try out the second nine , playing it twice from the blue and the white tee.
It looks easy , with wide fairways and less tree hazards but water hazards are always on your right hand side. The green is fast and it reminds me of some undulating and fast greens in Klang Valley. Totaly contrary to the greens in KGM , you have to play a good second shot to the green.
Red pin will force you to play the front and putting the ball pin high will cause you to make three or more putt. Yellow pin will be much easier if you can put the ball at the centre of the green. Did that on hole 12 and get birdie for each two visit via the blue and the white tee.
The blue pin will be a bit tricky. Some greens are sloping upwards from the front and slope down again to the back. Playing the blue pin can be not as easy as it looks. On hole 16th , with the blue pin right at the back of the green , no wonder many take a lot of putt to finish the hole.
17th was a tricky par 3. On the blue tee , it is 175 m from the tee and 148 m from the white tee. Avoiding the bunker in front of the green is a good option. I did not get out from the bunker easily during my first visit. Should have aim for the fringe in front of the green.
18th is a nice par 5 finishing hole. Played a good tee shot from the white tee and left with another 215m to the pin. But played a lousy second shot and left with 25 m to the pin. Made a good pitch and run shot and left with a 7 footer for a birdie. Yes I missed the putt and end with a par.

Review on last visit :

Hole 1
You are tested on the first hole, either to wack it hard and make the ball travel right to left. If you choose a fairway wood , it will be a bit safer and left with about 160 meter to the pin . The green is a bit elevated. However if you hit the bunker with your second shot , reaching the green would be a bit tricky.

Hole 2
I love this par 3. Never failed to nail the green but always penalised for not having a good putting routine. If you are pin high , it will difficult to putt downhill. Hitting the green pin low will leave you with uphill putt.

Hole 3
Not for those who tee off wildly to left and right. If you can't hit a good straight shot with a driver , so be it . Take a 3 wood or even a 5 iron . A par 4 with 354 m to the pin on the blue tee. Be extra careful with the trees on the right. Anything on the fairway on the left is the best option. The green is a bit elevated guarded by two big bunkers on the front and back left. The green is sloping from the left to the right but elevated to the back right.

Hole 4
It is a short par 4 and I did not use my driver on the tee. It depend on how much your driver can carry your shot from the tee. If your tee shot carry over 200 m , by all means use 3 wood.Bamboo trees on the right is to be avoided, if not it will definitely shoot over par.
The green is a bit tricky though. YOur view from the 150 m mark might lead you to use a 7 iron . But lo and behold , you might need a club higher. The green is sloping upright from the front to the end. It is well guarded by two bunkers on the right and another one on the left.
A punch shot with 6 iron with intention to run the ball to the pin would be a good choice.

Hole 5
Do not hesitate to use the dirver. If you are stuck in between the trees on the left , get the ball back to the fairway. However if you can manipulate a low trajectory shot thru the trees by all means go for it. I did. I hit the driver with weak left grip and ended well left under the high trees. I took iron 4 and punch the ball thru the trees and reach the 100m mark.
However , it can be a bit tricky on this yardage. At the 100 m mark you have high trees on the left. The green is however on the open space. It might be a bit tricky to gauge whether the wind factor comes into play. Look at the trees far left close the hole 6 tee.

since 95 , after 10 years 13 handicapp , not bad. one guy played for one year and he dreamt of shooting scores like Tiger ha ha ha. golf is a game where if you don't have it , sad to say you are doomed not to have it. some take it lightly announcing , golf is only for fun. wait till he makes that bad shot and he will be cursing like hell on the fairway or the tee box.

some take it seriously and it paid off. some took the initiative of trying every single driver in the market and at the end of day sells it off for cheaper for the oppurtunist to grab.

If you wanna play golf , learn golf ettiqutte properly. Spend more time with a teaching pro on the driving range. If you can afford it , watch any local tournament closely and get as much as possible to watch the pro's in action . But if you feels that is too much , then don't bother telling me golf is for fun. For me if you spend thousand ringgit on a golf set and can make the best shot with it , what the heck are you spending the money for.

I started golf in 95 with RM 500 second hand golf set , until I reached handicapp 16. Then working abroad with no nearest golf facilities took me away from the game. In 2003 came back to the game and now pushing hard to get the handicapp down to 10. Only in 2003 I have invested in a sum of money for my new set.

But who am I to tell you what to do with your money , right ? go ahead then , like I said , some have and some just don't.....

18th Hole - last throw of the dice

Airil played the front nine 31. And it was promising until the 10th hole. The long wait at tee box 10th kills off the drama. I stayed with the group from the 1st hole. The rest of the crowd was behind the leaders. And I wonder why am I following the second last flight.

Was it simply in the group , we have two malaysians, airil and rashid. Or is it too much too watch the leaders being content at the top not making any move. For me both are the real reason. I knew the fact that , Rashid and Airil will be trying to catch the leaders. And my guess was right, but only as far as the front nine.

It was fun to see Airil hitting all the green on the fron nine on regulation and putting for birdie. Well except for both par three , he surely makes my day. I was the only one cheering for them and from time to time they do show their appreciation back by a simple wave or nod of the hat.

The second nine was hurting Airil. Rashid was simply playing to stay in the hunt. A bad luck strike Airil on the 14th. He did managed to punchthe ball to the fringe of the green after a poor tee shot. But the chip to the pin was a bit unlucky and thats the only reason he plays 37 on the back nine.

The championship has to be decided on a playoff. I did not stay long to watch but from what I heard the thais took it at the last hole.

Monday I did managed to participate in the Pro-vip games. Played with Suresh who was 11th on the local money list ranking. Started at the age of 17 and turn pro 4 years later , life as a pro was not that the PGA type. Oh Malaysia... if only you have heart for the promising young talents.

I dare not comment more. I salute the pros for making the trip to Miri. and thank you miri for being a good host...

I have never enjoyed watching golf and then at the same day caddie for a fren who is an amateur in one day. In the morning , did woke up early , rush to golf course and sit down at the back of 1st tee box. Looking at the pro hit the ball and saw it move from right to left did left me wondering , why didnt do that before...he he he.

An amateur from Miri played badly in the back 9 , but on the way to the 1st hole he would not be able to grasp what would happen to him in 10 minutes. Lo and behold , he nailed the 1st tee box and voila , hole in one. A rexton and gen 2 for one golf shot ....???

For the first time in my entire golfing days , I have managed to walk by and shake hands with pros and amateurs . Among them , Airil , Ramayanah , Gunasegaran , Rashid Ismail , Amir , Shahban , Sivachandran , Nachimutu and etc etc etc.

But for day one , a local pro , shoot 67 followed with Boomsat 68 and another korean at 68 , Airil on 69 and Rashid on 70. In the afternoon , I did voluntered to to caddie a collegue whos handicapp is 0. Or was it two or one ? Anyway the experience is worth the 6km walk.It is totaly different from playing with them. This time I have the luxury of watching them from close , talking to them and last but not least read the line for the amateur.

Its a long day . Tomorrow will definitely be another day. I might caddie again , but it depend. Wish I cud caddie one of the pros. Then that would be something...

Miri Masters , the heat is on...

Reached the club at 4 pm. Seen some pro leaving the club towards town. Some were still at the driving range and the putting green. It is going to be an event tomorrow. Not many knew about it or even appreciate the quantum of the event. Mind you I have even sacrificed my annual leave just to be there and to witness pro teeing off form the 1st hole. The reason why most Malaysians are not keen on sports , well maybe that is one of them, not many of us know what happen on the other side of the coin.

When Malaysian athletes excel , you can see many are talking proudly about being Malaysians. But when these guys are at their low , not many Malaysians lend their hands and supports. In South East Asia, golfers are there at the top , Thailand , Singapore , Philiphines and even some from Mynamar are already in the frame.

I did managed to have a chat with one of the participating pro and malaysian top amateur about what does Malaysian golf clubs do to promote golf . Golf professional in Europeans nations or the big USA are welcomed to play at any golf courses with no charges. In Malaysia only Saujana give these priorities to top 20 golfers in the malaysian ranking. Sounds fair enuf but what about other clubs... ?

I guess not many pro golfers in Malaysia have enuf sponsorship to develop their game. HOw difficult is it to let these pro play. Pro could help promoting those clubs if they let them (the pro) play with minimum two paying guests. If they can bring in more paying guests and promote your club , why is it that difficult to waive them green fees.

I may not brainy enuf to make other suggestions. But the reality is , not many Malaysians support any kind of sports. Ask your self...

Anyway , if you are around Miri , make a date at KGM tomorrow morning. First group will be teeing off as early as 7 am in the morning. The last flight to tee off will be at 1240 pm.

But then again , remember to observe the following :
1. Please do not use your handphone close to the players.
2. Keep your handphone on silent mode.
3. Do not make hash movement on the tee box.
4. If you want to make comments , keep it within the club house.
5. Photo snaps are good but can distract players.
6. If you cannot control your kids , dont bother bringing them along.
7. Keep mineral water handy , we dont want players distracted by unneccessary commotion of crowd trouble.

last but not least , Miri is lucky to have such a group of pro coming over. Come and watch the game...

It can be quite difficult for a high handicapper golfer to play the 16th. I have even witnessed golfer using drivers . Golfers with handicapp between 24 to 15 , opted the services of 3 or 4 or 5 wood. Most do not realise that this par three will be a good test of how good are your iron game. Even some single handicappers may struggle to put the ball on the green from the tee box. Blue pin may require the golfer to play it a bit fade . But the green is protected by a long green shaped on the right hand side of the green.

If you land short of the bunker , the hump between the bunker and the green can be intimidating. THe usual pitch shot can be tricky. You may have to use a lofted club and play the ball high to endure the ball does not run thru the green. If you cant reach the green from the tee , it is adviseable to play your shot short of the green on the left side infront of the green.

But then again , your short game skills will be tested if you land your shot shor of the green.

Sunday 24.4.05 another sunday morning

Late sat nite I was wondering who to play with on sunday morning. Spend the whole day on saturday with the family. Went out , get some crab and Gulai Ketam for late lunch. Do some reallocation of stuff inside the house and spend time with the gals outside the house.

On sunday morning , played with two frens M and A. We started with the back nine with some senior golfers infront of us. They wre quite efficient except until we reach the 13th hole. As we looking away from the tee box , the group in front of us were having fun sccoping balls from the water hazard. It was the most bizzare things that golfers are not supposed to do when you have a group of golfers waiting behind you.

We decided to have take a break before the flight in front of us start spoiling our sunday golf. Finished hole 13th and eat breakfast at half way hut next to green no 15th.

anyway it was just another sunday on the golf course. to note.

Another back 9

Its a better day. Good weather. The fairway are in good condition ( compared to during wet weather) . Played the back 9 with Y and D. Good t shot at the first hole but only a par. Played the second shot with a nine iron on the 10th hole, that is the first in two years. More or less I think its simply due to the new routine. Simply put the grip not far from the body and flex the knees and swing it smooth.

Unfortunately it does not went well on the 2nd hole. Fumbled the tee shot and end up in the drain, but lucky enuf it was dry and I did managed to punch out with a 7 iron on to the fairway. Another 9 iron and it went beyond the green reaching the back bunker. Nothing can be said bunker games , played it short and chip it to the pin with a gimme 6.

Par 3 was better , landed the tee shot on the left side bunker and played it out well to the pin with about 7 feet to the pin. I did put to the right of the pin hoping a break to the left but the ball went straight with a mere left bend at the end of the putt.

Hole 13th was better , good t shot and a nine iron went thru and pin high. Long putt to the pin , and went short. Lucky enuf the new putting routine gave me the confidence to get a par saving putt.

14th was nice , with wood 4 , good swing and quite a distance away on the fairway. Approach the green with a 54 degrees loft wedge and put it pin high to the right. About 15 feet to the pin , the putt was miserable. Managed to save par .

Can't really figure out why I did not tee low on the 15th. And yes I did end up on the drain on the right fairway in between the tall trees. Only managed to squat and swing the 8 iron to punch the ball out . I should have figure out to use the 3 iron and it should give me a better posture. Nahhhhh , boogie 5 is not that bad after a long putt only to see the ball end up right of the pin.

Par 3 16th was fun. T shot was not that good and it end up right to the right side bunker. I have to chip across the elevated hump after the bunker and end up on the first tier on the fringes. The putt from out of the green was beautifully judged and a par was a bonus.

Both par 5 had a good t shot. On the 17th , with about 220 m to the pin , the 4 wood was working perfectly and landed only about 30 m to the pin. The approach to the pin was not up to the mark and only managed to deliver a two putt to save par.

The last hole , the 2nd shot was not as good as the 2nd shot on the 17th. Left it way to the right with about 15m to the pin . The bunker with elevated green and beyond the pin the green slope down to the edges. The chip was not tha fabulous. End up putting uphill with break left to right. Only managed to save par and end up 4 over with 1 double boogie and two boogie.

My short games is not up to the mark yet. Although some short putt and lucky break from the fringes do helps a lot.

40 was not that bad.....

A Trip to KL meeting up old frens

Woke up very early in the morning for only one reason only. I am
travellin in an hour to play golf ...!!! E will be picking me up from KL Sentral thismorning. The flight into KL was swift. Basically did not pay attention to either the crew or the food or anyone in the same row. Even did not realise a number of my collegue were flying in the same plane. Upon landing at KLIA , voices comes from the back row. Collegues started to joke about me not noticing them .

Off the plane , straight to the baggage collection area , and there my
golf set in my golf travelling bag already sitting nicely on a trolley near a KLIA staff. Grab the bag and gave a grin smile to the men in uniform who seems to know me and did not bother to check my ID or even baggage ID. Take the lift down to KLIA express terminal . 5 minutes later I was in the train to KL. Did called home to check on my other half , checking on how the kids are doing back home.

Waited for E for about an hour and a half before he comes around
already in his golfing attires. We went for s small meal at Ali Baba restaurant somewhere near Taman Tun. "a" came later with his "new wife" . Woowww that man really knows how to deal with his problem. The problem is I did not envy his action, neither do I condone his act. If he happen to read this one , sorriiiiiiii.

Did I wore the wrong attire today ? Why did the restaurant owner
chooses to give their workers the same tchirt colour with the one I wears today.DAaaaaaaaaaaaaa.......$&*(@#.

We left the outfit a minute before 12. On the way , did catch up with E
on our personal life. Come to think of it , I had never had this chance to have a chat with him , that long. We were enjoying the time spent
driving to the golf club not realising we were heading up north to Serendah. Earlier we were sort of gossiping some frens who took the trip up north to play golf near the border. And guess what , we nearly did the same thing.Manage to turn back at the right junction and reach the golf club close to 1 pm.

Did not managed to play with E. I wonder what will happen if we did
play in the same flight . We could end up playing the wrong balls or even hitting the balls to the wrong fairway or greens. The game was interuppted at 4.Heavy downpours forces the group to retreat to the club house. E started ordering food and the rest follows suit. Except for my group of eager golfers wishing the rain to die down before we could continue hitting the balls.

Did continue at 5 pm and it was my worst game on the course. Did not
warm up at the driving range. and it cost me dearly on the first green. How could a golfer with 13 handicapp struggling 4 times before he could
reach the green , after landing his second shot in the bunker....
to sum up ......... golf is fun.

Another golfing week

Wednesday was with a cheeky crowd and Thursday was quite a get together flight.

On wednesday , we did stumbled upon two fren working next door. The beuty of Miri Golf club is , if you dont have enuf 4 balls (4 partners) you might be seen as a waste of time using the golf course for two person . All you have to do is get yourself ready on the 1st or the 10th teebox , and signalled to the starter on your intent to play with anyone with empty slots.

Wednesday was full of laughter. Whenever a person shots himself toward the OB line , someone in the background will simply comment . " thaniah , you hit a good long shot. Usually it takes a good long hitter to hit OB". And of course it meant to tease the person who miserably thinking where the balls lies in the OB ares.

Thursday was a game to entertain a golfer who has decided to leave miri about 6 months ago. Boy ! he does not looks like losing any of his touch. Being handicapp 10 to 12 , usually the skills does not dies off that fast. Unlike those from 13 to 17. Most of the time it takes some effort and practise on the range just to make sure the swing is still there.

Golf Putt tips

Most golfers are guilty of not making effort on improving their putting skills. Many even cursed themselves on the green , or even shout in anger why is it a simple 3 foot putt has missed the cup.
I have been using various putters , from the usual basic design , to the two ball putter , which recently sold to another golfer.
The golden rule on making that ball roll to the cup is alignment. Many are guilty of aiming their shoulder to the cup instead of the ball path to the cup. Try these with another golfer on your practise green.

1. take two club and align one club parallel with your feet l , aiming to the left of the cup. Use the other club and put in parallel to your ball aiming to the cup. The gap between your ball and your feet should match with the gap from the cup to the left spot which you aim parallel to your feet . Your feet will also match the alignment of your shoulder

You can repeat the above when you are on the green. (without the clubs though !)

Routine I have used recently which have reduced number of putts in my game :(for eg yesterday scored 39 on back 9 with only 13 putt)

1. Stand infront of the cup with your putter as if you are putting from the ball mark. Vision the line from the cup to the ball mark.
2. Now stand infront of your ball mark and align your feet to the left of the cup.
3. Stand tall and rest your club infront of you and let it rest against you front side.
4. Reach for the putter grip and do not bend too much. If you do , the further the grip from your body means you will be forcing your waist to support a painful back bend.
5. Use short backswing and follow thru at least 6 inches thru the ball.

Bought this driver way back in 1996 from a second-hand golf equipment shop in Kuantan. It was only RM 50. Still wondering who was the original owner. At that time everyone was looking at drivers like Callaway Big Berta , War Bird and the rest of it. I still have it in my spare golf bag.

But decided to start playing golf with low budget equipment , the driver was worth buying. Win some small tournament back then in Kelab Desa Rantau P... One thing for sure those drivers are more accurate but lacking in distance. Nor does it have that "pingggggggg" sound when u drive the ball.

Ever been to miri Warung Hole no 9 ? Visited by golfers and non golfers , the place is mostly known due to its close proximity to tee box hole no 9 at Kelab Golf Miri. The food is good and many claimed mee jawa is the main reason why they eat there.

A fren' who is now somewhere in Muglad Basin , must be wondering and thinking of his usual "sirap limau and mee jawa" after completing hole no 8. Many others still have that special note warung hole no 9.

In sports , namely golf , Miri City Masters will be held at Kelab Golf Miri from 28th April to 1st May 2005. A Pro Am tournament will folllow on 2nd May 2005.

KGM Parking space have been repaired and looks good. However while walking back to the car , one cannot miss the scene of two big machines still there.

A golfer was mentioning to me , is that the hole in one price for the next big tournament next week. Some even suggested that machine should be given to those golfers who took ages to finish their games.

whatever it is ... it is always fun to play golf on a sunday morning. Especially when we played with some of our guest from Brunei and a golfer from KL. As usual golf addix golfers are at their best , each scoring nett 73 , 74 and 78 nett. We had a small lunch at the club house and parted at around 12.30 pm.

Miri Masters

From 27th to 30th , Miri Masters will be held at KGM. Officials have been prowling on the golf course , looking at the layout and how the turf should be redesinged etc etc etc. We met him with KGM Committee member on the practise putting green yesterday. He was talking about how the fairway was a bit wide and need to be resize a bit.

Too wide ! But I still cant find the fairway... ha ha ha.

It will an important event for miri. On the 1st of May , the city status will be Miri. And I do hope golf addix can visit us and watch the pros and the amateurs striking the balls on the fairway or at the driving range.
Golf addix will definitely be there with the usual digital camera. Probably later we can share the pro's swing shots.

Oh US Masters !!!
Someone scores 106 on the first day and scores 14 for a par 3. If you ask my honest opinion , I would say ,"Its a load of rubbish". For anyone to pay a sum of money and see a so called professional to play like that , hellloooooo!!!!.
He may be an old champion . Hey ! its better they called up Colin Mont 'rie . Sorry to see Nick backing out due to back spasm. Ohh ! I think he is getting older. Or is it too much late nite work ehh.
Only a number of internationals managed to play the first round. I hate to see Tiger playing . He is getting out of focus! trying too much and getting too emotional abt golf. He should loosen up and stay focus by breathing more rather than hitting the bag with the club.
Look here Tiger! There is no pride or respect if young kids sees u hitting that bag with that tempers. Show more control of your own temper ! and be nice to yourself Tiger.

Luke Donald ... hey nice one young man. One wonders what will he bag in in the next 5 years. I sees him as the most prominent young British players for the milininieum. Paul Casey and Lee Westwood are getting in there again.

anyway , it is good to see new players filling in the top ten. Tiger , I dont think he can get back to his prime in 2000. Unless he deals with his own temperament.

First Good luck to Danny ! I sincerely hope he or any of the Msian young rising talents could make it to the highest level in Golf Professional tour. After seeing one of the ladies in the LPGA , hope is still there. Why not ? Why can't we produce a professional golfers challenging each title in each professional circuit. Scenes of kids as young as 5 year old trying to hit a golf ball at the driving range are now quite common even in Miri.
For kids out there , I sincerely hope I could raise both my hands to applaud one of you young Malaysian to be a true Professional Circuit Champion. Good Luck Malaysians.

Maybe Retief could be a suprise winner. He has been in some top 10 recently. Although Big Easy Ernie might raise his games and pull something from his old bag. Vijay , nahhh , sorry dude , nothing sparks the air when u win. Sorry Vijay fans. Its a pity though Big Monty won't be around this year.

Would you give it up for another sport ?

For most people the game known to many as "golf" may be quite expensive. For some it may be quite a burden for a family men. Many non golfers and some golfers (giving reason for not turning up) feels that it is time consuming. Combine that , many perceived the game as something money not well spent and time wasting.

I did not purposely play golf back in 1995. 10 years ago I am a person who feels I can watch the game but wont play the game. I was quite active in my youth , playing field hockey , football and other games you can turn to in a boarding school.

One evening , on returning home , I was sort of forced to sit there close to the driving range having to watch my ride hitting some golf balls. Hey ! I was offer to hit two or three balls and guess what , the first hit and the balls flies! Since then I have never look back. With handicapp 13 , the experience well worth the time spent.

Met different people with different view on golf and other things that is important to men. Still , a few trophies is already in the bag, Duyong Cup 1998, A fridge won can remember what was the tournament and most recently Sdara Challenge Trophy in 2004. hey ... non golfers ... give it a try.

Remember the trip to RBA last year ? Well for 2005 , no more green fees for KGM members. RBA is now affiliated with KGM. Any future trip to RBA will only cost us Bridge toll fees , and maybe mimimal buggy fees. Weekend 30th March and 1st May will be a good day to make the trip.

Sunday : Another one bites the pond

Oh boy ! what can I say about my game this week . To sum up , it is not consistent at all with my handicapp. Maybe some of the item in the bag needs to be recycled. Today , another beautiful day. Nothing wrong with the hot sun , something is not right about the driver though. A golfer decided to part with us thru the half way. Pitty anyway.
Scored another 100 plus. AK and AM did quite well , played 73 nett. For me , that touch is not there for now. Maybe in a week or two it will come back. Next week there will be afternoon of matchplay for those who qualifies from monthly medal on saturday.

Maybe early morning golfers wanna do something about it ?

Does anyone realises that slow play is the thing that most golfers alike hated most. In a game of golf when you purposely take more time to prepare to take your shot or even to move forward , things can get ugly.
On the other hand golfers at the back of the crawling pack have to endure mental challenge not to mention to concentrate on whta they should do next to their shots.

It was a bit cloudy. Most of the golfers were not attracted to visit the club. Most who came , only to check on their flight schedules for Saturday monthly medal. Me ... tomorrow morning at 7.56 am , the last flight on the back 9. Most of us will not be there this weekend. Onn is away on call offshore Bintulu. Abu , Hj A Ken and some are on morning flights.

The clubhouse restaurant is under a new management. The boys and gals are in new attires. Nice touch ! Blue vest for the ladies and Charles is wearing a maroon colour vest. The greens are in good condition for the weekend. Hopefully the weather will not be the challenging factor. Have fun !!!

A win at Tasik Puteri

Morning Sept 19th , 2004. Sdara 2004 Annual Golf Tournament , about 60 pax joined in. Started at the back 9 , score 43 gross , with only bogey at hole 10, 14 and 16th. Then with 3 birdies on the back 9 , scored 36 gross.

It was fun and the first score below 80 in my entire 8 years playing recreational golf.

This weekend two major tournaments , KGM's monthly medal and Adnan Satem Challenge Trophy. Maybe another trophy....? who knows...

The trip to Pantai Mentiri - Golf Addix Miri

Pantai Mentiri Golf Club

It was a couple days ago when Onn speaks of having a website for oil & gas golfers in Miri. Merely meant as a channel where Miri oil & gas golfers can be informed on our so callled mini tour of Borneo golf havens. We went to Pantai Mentiri last weekend on the 26th March 2005. It was fun although the hot sun during our 2nd nine was affecting our games.But on the other hand Usop did a miracle. Scoring both nine 40 gross , it was an honour to play with him. From hole no 6 Usop scores 9 consecutive par! Lucky enuf no one dares or challenge him to any bet before the game.We left Miri Asean bridge at 6.30 am and stopover for breakfast somewhere in Panaga. Some had tosey , me the usual roti canai and some even had "roti kawin". Hj Wahab drove his Merc , so does Capt Muz and Usop in his usual Pajero. We reached the club at about 9.40 am and started the game almost before 10 am.The first flight includes Usop,myself , Hj Wahab and Abu. Second flight was D.Aziz,Capt Muz, A Kendong and Onn. We had our late lunch at almost 3 pm. Everyone were enjoying themselves until the food cleared off the plates. We left Pantai Mentiri at around 4.30 and reached Miri a bit later than 7.30pm. It was fun , enjoyable and another trip is a must for those who missed this one....
